Time is not on your side
I'm Oba.
I had 7 internships in college, got into Stanford GSB, and founded HeadStart Fellowship. Now I share what worked on LinkedIn and Instagram.

What I Wish Someone Told Me
This week's insight: Finance recruiting doesn't wait for anybody.
Most freshmen and sophomores think they have time. Then banking recruiting hits sophomore year, 18 months before you'd actually start the job, and it leaves most people behind.
The same pattern happens with PE recruiting. You graduate, start your banking or consulting role, and think you'll figure out PE later. The problem is a lot of PE associate recruiting happens between now and one year after you graduate. If you wait until you're on the job to start building technical skills, you're already behind.
This isn't just about PE recruiting. The pattern shows up at every stage. Freshmen wait too long to join clubs or build skills. Juniors wait too long to network before banking recruiting. Seniors wait too long to prep for PE recruiting. The timeline always comes faster than you think.
The people who succeed in finance are proactive. They find clubs on campus, programs off campus, bootcamps that help them get ahead before they need to be ahead.
The takeaway: Don't wait for the perfect time to start preparing. If you're a freshman, start now. If you're a senior, start now. Finance recruiting doesn't care about your timeline.
If you're a graduating senior starting banking or consulting in 2026, Recalc's PE Recruiting Bootcamp is one way to get that early prep. 11 live classes on LBO modeling and case prep. Applications close February 7. Completely free.
